Polycarbonate finds such a wide variety of uses because of its high impact strength - far greater than
glass and about ten times that of an acrylic like PMMA. However, that strength comes with a relatively
light weight. PC has less than half of the density of glass, but has a comparable transparency. In fact, polycarbonate actually transmits visible light better than many types of glass.
